Executive Summary
- This is a project by the Finnish Business Community in China to raise funds and re-build a school in the WenChuan quake area.
- The target budget is ca RMB 3.500’ out of which nearly 2.000’ is already secured in the form of cash, materials, or services.
- We now seek support and a ”soft-commitment” within the rest of the community in order to secure execution of this project.
After the quake in May the world responded quickly. Many millions were donated towards first-aid effort. However, the damages can be counted in trillions. Now that the media coverage has subsided the children in Sichuan are are faced with the reality of getting an education in temporary buildings. Our steering group member, Dr. Baisen He, construction project manager with Pöyry Consulting tells comments after his visit to the area:
When I went to Sichuan, I saw students studying in temporary classrooms. One of the schools I visited had no power in the classrooms, most have no heating or ventilation. I hope that we could build all of the schools. I really feel we must do something now. In You Xian Town (Mian Yang), there are altogether 47 schools in need of being rebuilt and so far only 11 of them have recieved funding or are under construction.
